Owner/Head Tutor

Experience
High School Math Teacher
I taught high school math for eight years.  I love teaching but am currently taking time out of the classroom to be home with my young children.   The high school math classes that I taught included Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry and Pre-calculus.

Math Tutor
I have tutored professionally since 1994.  It has always been something that I have done for fun.  Now that I am home with my kids it has become my primary profession.  I have worked with students from eight years old to seniors in high school as well as adults returning to school.  I have tutored students in every class from elementary school mathematics through calculus.

SAT Preparation
I have been helping high school students prepare for the SAT since 1988.  I have taught SAT prep classes for the Princeton Review as well as ones that I have organized myself and I have tutored many students privately.

Elementary School Teacher
I began my teaching career by spending three years teaching the 3rd and 4th grade.   I left elementary school to focus on the subject that I felt was my strongest -- mathematics.

Qualifications
Education:  I received my BA from Harvard College and my Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Loyola University of Chicago.

Certification:  I am a New Hampshire state certified 7th-12th grade math teacher.  I am also certified in Illinois to teach self contained K-9 classrooms.

Philosophy
I believe that with enough time and the right kind of instruction, all students can learn .  In large math classes, teachers are not always able to tailor their instruction to the individual needs of every student.  As a tutor, I help my students discover their individual learning styles so that they can more effectively learn from their teacher.  In some cases after a few weeks of intense work a student is able to more effectively learn from their classroom teacher and is ready to work on their own again. In other cases, students find it useful to meet on an ongoing basis to supplement classroom instruction.
