Preschool Spanish Immersion Class

One of our Spanish tutors is particulary talented with preschool students.

If you can gather a group of pre-schoolers and parents, she can run an immersive Spanish class.

Here are some of the things that she has done (in her words):

A Day at the Beach.
I brought water, food coloring, and mineral oil in a glass jar, about 20lbs of good old cape cod beach sand, pictures of sea creatures, various toys I found (matchbox jet ski, sand dollar, bucket, shovel, etc) and a ton of shells sorted by shape and texture. They just played in the sand while I talked about what everything was. I kept everything in my lap so as they wanted it I would be able to talk about it. We made fish out of (clean) Poland Spring water bottles, glue, and tissue paper, octopi out of toilet paper tubes and jellyfish out of paper plates.

Shapes
We talked about shapes, made prints using paint and these plastic screw things I found, and we played a musical chairs shape game

Plants
I brought in every stage of plant I could gather: seeds, sprouted beans, started spider plants etc. We talked about the different parts of the plant. We did leaf prints and we made planters out of yogurt cups. Everyone planted a spider plant to take home.

Animals
I brought in EVERY animal toy in my house and talked about the animals we liked the noises they made and where they lived. In talking about the parts of the animals we talked about the parts of the human body. We also played a game of animal charades/Simon says.

Colors
We read Mouse Paint in Spanish, talked about color, made colors using food coloring and water and talked about mixing.
